Engineering A Better Future

There are several parties that become involved in the importing process, some of the key players include; the company exporting the goods, the U.S. Customs Agency, a freight forwarder, a Customs broker, the bank, an attorney, and the importer.

There may be other parties involved as well, depending on the type of product, such as the EPA, or there may be FDA registrations or textile declarations to consider.  The importer must take responsibility for identifying the agencies that need to be involved/informed.  Although responsibilities are divided up amongst many parties/experts, the ultimate responsibility falls upon the importer to get it right.  Taking the time upfront will help to avoid logistical problems and unplanned costs.  Roaring Brook can help you find out what you need to know to make the process of importing your goods less confusing.

With the help of Roaring Brook Consultants we can help you to work effectively with the following parties to launch your project;

  • US Customs Agency to properly identify their product on the harmonized tariff schedule and work towards obtaining a "binding ruling" that will eliminate any confusion delays when product reaches US Customs.

  • TSCA to meet any reporting requirements that the EPA might require.

  • A freight forwarder/customs broker that specializes in working with the country of export and is geographically located to bring product in as close to as possible to reduce additional costs and lead times.
